SAR-action at Camp Norway

Camp Norway, Halden

19-years old Scottish girl went out for a night training yesterday, but got lost and ran out of battery. She spent five hours in the forest, waiting for the Search and resque-teams. The whole Camp Norway was involved in the searching, and in the end, they found her in good condition.

The plan for the evening included seminar with the Norwegian junior coach Kenneth Buch, who was going to talk about next year's JWOC. The seminar was cancelled, and the participants in the camp were told to get their training clothes on and take part in the searching. The main problem was that most of the participants also ran night-O during the evening, and their batteries were low.

The searching was organised in teams, with good coordination and connection with the organisers at the finish. Sea King hellicopter and dog squad were also involved in the searching, and approximately around 23 o'clock the Scottish girl was found.

The camp-leader Kenneth Buch tells OPN.no about the drama: "The girl got lost, ran out of battery and then waited five hours to be found".

Last night's training is example for the next year's Norwegian Night championship, with the same coursesetter behind. You can see the map at Halden Skiklubb's website.
